KRISTINE MAASSEN
Role:
Anthropologist, Graduate student
Institution:
Rutgers University
Kristine is a graduate student at Rutgers University working with Dr. Lee Cronk. She is interested in how communities cooperate in the face of societal and environmental disaster/crisis. More specifically, Kristine is interested in the efficacy and longevity of mutual aid as a disaster response. Although she is working with modern humans, Kristine will view this research through an evolutionary lens to offer insight into why this kind of prosocial behavior may have evolved in humans. Her research will focus on underserved communities that utilize mutual aid practices within the United States.
Kristine is affiliated with the Center for Human Evolutionary Studies at Rutgers University. She has a bachelor’s degree in child psychology from the University of Minnesota and uses her time spent working in the mental health field to help inform her work.
